摘要

 《老人與海》是美國(guó)作家海明威的代表作,這部小說(shuō)是根據(jù)一位古巴漁夫的真實(shí)經(jīng)歷創(chuàng)作的,以樸實(shí)的寫(xiě)實(shí)手法記錄了老人桑提亞哥捕魚(yú)的全過(guò)程,塑造了一個(gè)在重壓下仍然保持優(yōu)雅風(fēng)度、在精神上永遠(yuǎn)不可戰(zhàn)勝的老人形象,這種精神上永遠(yuǎn)不可戰(zhàn)勝者成為文學(xué)史上最著名的“硬漢”形象之一。《老人與海》發(fā)表后好評(píng)如潮，評(píng)論家、作家普遍認(rèn)為海明威登上了新的高峰。對(duì)于這部給海明威帶來(lái)巨大聲譽(yù)的作品，國(guó)內(nèi)外評(píng)論文章早就汗牛充棟。大部分的人評(píng)論這部作品時(shí)大都著眼于老人桑提亞哥,而忽略了另一個(gè)重要人物,那就是小男孩曼若琳。本文就對(duì)這一人物形象進(jìn)行了論述，著重探索曼若林這一角色在《老人與海》中的重要作用。揭示了小男孩實(shí)為《老人與海》這一杰作的畫(huà)龍點(diǎn)睛之筆，具有不可替代的藝術(shù)效果。
 本文論述主要有五部分構(gòu)成。第一章主要介紹作者及其著作——《老人與海》，作者對(duì)美國(guó)文學(xué)的貢獻(xiàn)及其作品的影響，還介紹了文中的小男孩曼若琳的重要性。第二章概述了曼若琳在表現(xiàn)小說(shuō)主題中所起的作用，他在側(cè)面表現(xiàn)老人性格方面是不可或缺的，而且他是硬漢形象的繼承者。第三章則分析了小說(shuō)的結(jié)構(gòu)，由于小男孩的存在，小說(shuō)有了跳躍式的穿插，完美的對(duì)照和一種緩急相間的節(jié)奏感。第四章進(jìn)一步探究了曼若琳形象的塑造，在小說(shuō)中他的感情經(jīng)歷了三個(gè)不同的階段：靜止期、微妙波動(dòng)期和爆發(fā)期，每一個(gè)時(shí)期都令人影響頗深。第五章則從作者的角度闡述了小男孩在作品中不可或缺的地位及存在的必要性，小男孩這一人物形象是海明威寫(xiě)作風(fēng)格的延續(xù),包括敘事方式，冰山原理和客觀(guān)超然的觀(guān)點(diǎn)。最后一章為結(jié)論，主要對(duì)曼若琳這一藝術(shù)形象進(jìn)行總結(jié)。

Abstract

 The Old Man and the Sea, a symbolic novel written by Hemingway of American writer, is based on the true story of a Cube fisherman whose fishing process is completely recorded by the realistic expression. The image of an old man that is unconquerable in spirit and keeps quality of grace under pressure is successfully molded. This kind of man who is never conquered in spirit becomes the famous “Tough Guy Image” in the literary history. The Old Man and the Sea receives rave reviews after being published. Critics and Writers think that Hemingway has achieved new heights. There are countless reviews of the work which has brought him great fame and honor at home and abroad. Most people commenting on this work had largely focused on the old man Santiago, but lost sight of another important figure—the little boy Manolin. This thesis attempts to elaborate on the characteristics of the little boy and puts emphasis on researching the role of Manolin in The Old Man and Sea. A truth can be exposed that the little boy is finishing touch of the pen in the writer’s masterpiece and has an irreplaceable artistic effect.
 This thesis consists of five parts: Chapter one is the introductory part which presents the writer and his masterpiece The Old Man and the Sea, as well as the author’s contribution to the American literature and the impact of the work. The importance of the little boy in the work will be discussed at the same time. Chapter two summarizes the function of Manolin in presenting the theme. He is indispensible in presenting the old man’s character sideways and heir of “Tough Guy Image”. Chapter three aims to analyze the structure of the novel. Because of Manolin, the perfect anaphora, Leaping Interlude and a kind of fast and slow rhythm are added to the novel. Chapter four further probes the characterization of Manolin, whose emotion experiences three different stages in the novel: The static stage, the subtle, fluctuating stage and the outbreak stage. Each stage is very impressive in the novel. Chapter five explores the indispensable status and existing necessity of the little boy in the work from the perspective of the author. The role of Manolin is the continuance of Hemingway’s writing style—narrative manner, iceberg principle and objective, detached point of view. The last chapter is conclusion, which is the summary of Manolin’s main artistic image.
